Abstract

Poly(methacrylate) containing azobenzene unit-block-poly(methacrylate) containing oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether unit was synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization method. The diblock copolymer/silica hybrid film was prepared by spin-cast method. The resulting film was characterized by X-ray diffraction measurement and atomic force microscope observation. As a result, the hybrid film had microphase-separated structure with vertical alignment. We also achieved removal of organic component by UV/O_3 oxidization using vacuum ultraviolet apparatus, and then the nano-ordered height contrast appeared. This methodology provides a facile approach to inorganic nanostructures with tunable lateral spacing and size. Furthermore, this approach can be extended to construction systems of other morphologies by controlling weight fraction of precursor contents.
