The orientation of a nematic liquid crystal (NLC) on high-density polystyrene (PS) brushes was examined. The NLC injected into the cell consisting of the PS-grafted substrates was oriented by cooling the cell from isotropic temperature of LC to room temperature (RT) at a magnetic field. While the cell exhibited electro-optical properties typical for the LC cells at RT, at higher temperature showed the behaviors that are explainable if the anchoring molecules rotates in the field-on state, and in the subsequent field-off state.
