The response time is well known as one of the most important parameters for the property of liquid crystal (LC) display. As for the evaluation of dynamic response, it needs to consider the response of LC molecules both in the bulk and near the surface interface. Therefore, the observation of the molecular reorientation near the interface between the substrate and LC layer is necessary. Up today, the total reflection ellipsometry was applied by using the planarly aligned LC cell. In this study, we will evaluate the dynamic response of the vertically aligned LC cell near the interface between the substrate and LC layer by the total reflection ellipsometry.
