Abstract

The bistable LCD named Bistable Twisted Direction Switching (BTDS)-LCD proposed by our group. The LCD material with Δε<0 was used for the bistable LCD mode due to obtaining higher contrast ratio (CR). Our conventional BTDS-LCD has an optical CR of 15:1. The pure black state could be obtained easy in the vertical alignment state at the low applied voltage if Δε<0 LC material was used. However, the display memory function was sacrificed. Then, polymer stabilization technique was attempted to use this cell due to the improvement of the memory time. As results, the display memory time of 20 sec and the CR of 230:1 were obtained.
