Abstract

The inorganic alignment film for the LC alignment is expected due to the high durability. The vertical alignment for the nematic LC is obtained by using the anodized Al film which is inorganic material is known. However, control of the pretilt angle is not so easy for this film. Some kinds of anisotropic characteristics are attempted to give on the Al film surface during the anodic oxidation treatment to induce the pretilt angle. The anodic oxidation was carried out while moving the slim cathode to the anode plane in parallel. As a result, the slight pretilt angle from the normal to the substrate was obtained, however, the alignment vector in azimuthal direction was continuously changed in the plane. The convexoconcave cased when the cathode was cut to the slim gave the electric field distribution adverse effect during the anodic oxidation treatment.
