Abstract

Highly-efficient photorefractive medium was fabricated using the low-molar-mass liquid crystals, polymer liquid crystals, and fullerene derivatives. Three kinds of fullerene derivatives were used as photoconductive sensitizers and photorefractive diffraction efficiencies were observed on varying the applied dc field, writing beam intensity, fullerene concentration and grating period. The diffraction efficiencies reached to near the theoretical maximum (33.9%) under the Raman-Nath conditions.
