Abstract

Simple and compact birefringence measurement system has been investigated by using a LC cell as a phase shifter. Some LC cells are fabricated with various LC materials, and their voltage-transmission properties are measured by using a polarization microscope system or a measurement system with He-Ne laser. Induced phase shifting error in the calibration process of the driving voltage is investigated by using the measurement results. Furthermore, we actually estimate the birefringence of potato starch during the temperature change.
