In the past, the hardness of alignment film has been estimated by Vickers hardness tester and nanoindentation tester. However, these testers are unsuitable to estimate the alignment film, which the thickness is less than 100nm, due to an influence of the base material and the adhesion between the base material and the film. In this study, the correlations between the hardness of alignment film by means of micro slurry-jet erosion test and the characteristics for the alignment of liquid crystal molecules will be demonstrated.
