Properties of area coverage modulation have been studied in multidomain liquid crystal (LC) cells which show white and black lines between two polarizers. LC director distributions of +45° and -45° twisted nematic (±45° TN) aligned lines and a transmittance are numerically estimated around the boundary of white and black pixels in different conditions of line width and anchoring strength. In half tone area coverage modulation, the tone density of 50% is independent of anchoring strength and line width.
