The technique for controlling the pretilt angle for LC cells by the same alignment material over the wide region has not been established. Therefore, the measurement of the surface anchoring energy depend on the pretilt angle was difficult. In this report, the UV curable LC polymer film was used as an alignment film. The pretilt angle on this film can be controlled for wide region if the cure condition is changed. Then, the anchoring energies were measured and evaluated of nematic LC cells which were fabricated with varying the pretilt angles by using this technique.
