We propose a microscope system with a liquid crystal (LC) lens for continuously varying the focal plane and taking the magnification images of a three-dimensional (3D) object. The variable focal length can easily be controlled by applying the voltages to both two circularly hole-patterned electrodes and external flat electrode of the LC lens. The all-focused image and 3D distribution of the object can be obtained by using a digital image processing of the magnification images.
