The phase structures and phase transition behaviors of bicontinuous cubic (Cubbi) liquid crystalline compounds, 1,2-bis(4´-n-alkoxybenzoyl)hydrazine (BABH-n, n is the number of carbon in the alkyl chain), confined in the nanoporous alumina having cylindrical pores with a diameter of 200 nm were studied by DSC, POM, and SAXS. For the BABH-n having long alkyl chain (n > 11), the Cubbi phases were induced even in the cylindrical nanopores; the lattice constants of the Cubbi phases in the pores are almost the same with themin the bulk state. On the other hand, the coexistence of the smectic andCubbi phaseswas observedwhen the alkyl chainwas short.
