Interaction between the cholesteric droplets under an electrix field

Abstract

In the coexisitence region of cholesteric and isotropic phases, we observe the hemispherical cholesteric droplets accompanied by the helix inside confined on a glass substrate. Under the electric field parallel to the substrate, the droplets rotate to orient the helical axis perpendicular to the field and at the same time, interact each other. The force between the droplets shows the clear dependence on both the relative direction and the distance between the droplets.
