We have demonstrated the formation of segregated nanostructures from disc-shaped electron donor and acceptor molecules through both of covalent and non-covalent approaches. One approach is the use of specific macromolecules where the electron-donating discotic π-systems are arranged one-dimensionally via covalent bonds. The other is the peripheral functionalization of electron-accepting cores by two immiscible side chain pairs that induce the stacking capability in a self-sorting style, when mixed with electron-donating discotic liquid crystalline molecules having conventional alkyl chains. Detailed structural information, thermal property, and electrical conductivity will be discussed in the both two systems.
