A hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is one of cellulose derivatives and it is used in various fields, food, medicine and so on. The HPC aqueous solution has a lyotropic liquid crystal phase and is colored by a selective reflection. The wavelength of the selective reflection is depending on a kind of additive ions and its concentrations. And the wavelength can be changed by applied voltage which changes the concentration of additive ions by electrophoresis. In this study, HPC liquid crystal with various ions was fabricated and its properties were measured.
