In this study, we investigated the liquid crystal properties of C3-BU and C5-BU possessing two urea groups, and evaluated their electro-responsiveness. To stabilize the polarization state, two intermolecular hydrogen bonding sites, two urea groups, were introduced in these molecules. The polarity of C3-BU was induced by an applied electric field, and after removal of the electric field, the polarization slowly relaxed back to the non-polar state over 20 min. On the other hand, the polarity of C5-BU was gradually induced by intermittent voltage application, and maintained after removal of the electric field.
