In recent years Dynamic Covalent Chemistry (DCC) has achieved significant importance due to its potential for the development of advanced materials with stimuli-responsive features. In the present work, we exploited the in-situ formation of dynamic imine bonds to design real-time phase transitions in liquid crystals. This was achieved using aldehyde 1 forming a nematic mesophase up to 60 ºC which adopts the homeotropic alignment on glass substrates. The addition of five different amines induced imine formation and subsequently phase transitions that were followed by POM and NMR. This strategy allows the real-time formation of constitutionally new mesophases and drives sequential phase transformations consisting of the imine formation followed by a transamination reaction.
