實驗的甲状腺腫ニ就テノ研究 (其ノ一)

抄録

In this study, I fed the rabbits, guinea pigs and white rats with Calcium carbonate, Calcium chloride, Quick lime and Calcium phosphate in purpose to observe whether the thyroid enlargement in those animals would develop or not. The result of the experiment was as follow :
1) The animals fed with Calcium carbonate showed the thyroid enlargement in rabbits 50 % (3 of the 6.animals), in guinea pigs 38 % (7 of the 18 animals) and in white rats 34.6 % (9 of the 26 animals).
2) In Calcium chloride fed animals, the thyroid enlargement were occurred in rabbits 33.3 % (2 of the 6 animals), in guinea pigs 28.6 % (2 of the 7 animals) and in white rats 22.7 % (5 of the 22 animals).
3) In Quick lime fed animals, the thyroid enlargement were in guinea pigs 16.6 % (1 of the 6 animals) and in white rats 20 % (2 of the 10 animals).
These thyroid enlargement begin to develop at 3 d month of feedng in the Ca carbonate and the Ca chloride fed animals and at 9 th month in the Quick lime fed animals.
The largest of thyroid enlargement due to above three kinds of Calcium feedings were about two to three times the weight of normal gland, but, suches are not always paralleled with the duration of feeding.
4) In Calcium phosphate fed guinea pigs, not a case of thyroid enlargement was found even the feeding was continued for 3 months.
