By means of fractionation procedure with acetone, acrinol and ammonium sulfate, a-parotin was isolated in a homogeneous state from crude parotin. Activity of α-parotin was 0.1mg/kg, and the yield was 10-12mg/kg bovine parotid gland.α-Yarotin is considered to be a glycoprotein and its isoelectric point is pH 3.4-3.6. It consists of 17 amino acids and scarcely shows maximum ultraviolet absorption.α-Parotin is also distinctly different in the various properties from parotin.
