Abstract
The effectiveness of barrier penetrants on improvements in watertightness and resistance of freezing-thaw durability of concrete is investigated in the present paper. First, concrete is molded nad cured under the required conditions. The naturally dried concrete is treated with six types of commercial silane and acrylic based barrier penetrants at the respective best coverage rates for penetration, and the treated concrete is tested for pnetration into the concrete, water absorption and permeation, and freezing-thaw durability. It is concluded from the test results that the penetration of the silane based barrier penetrants into the dried concrete is most effective in improving its watertightness.
