This paper reported the results of measurement of indoor asbestos fiber concentration for various types of indoor environment. The asbestos fiber concentration was determined by use of phase contrast microscope method and the dispersion staining method. The concentrations through the two methods were compared in the study. It was found that the concentration which determined by phase contrast microscopy method was ten times higher than that of determined by dispersion staining method.

It has been pointed out that 2-Ethyl hexanol (2EH) emitted from PVC Floor Covering could pollute indoor air. In this study, various 2EH catcher reagent for PVC Floor Covering were investigated. The emission rate of 2EH of PVC Floor Covering containing with reagent was measured by small chamber method. More than 90% reduction of 2EH emission was observed.

Nowadays, sick-house syndrome is becoming a social issue. Therefore, many Low VOC emission interior materials have been put into the market. However, in the case of floor covering materials like PVC floorcoverings, it is pointed out of possibility that the newly created VOC compounds emit from the materials, which is generated by chemical reaction of material by ground influence. In this study, we have evaluated the influence of types of grounds and adhesives by focusing on the 2EHA emission, which is generated by the hydrolysis of some ester compounds. As a result, we have found that one of the non water resistance adhesive emits 2EHA under the condition of the alkaline ground. On the other hand, when installing PVC floorcovering which contains DEHP with urethane based water resistance adhesive prevents hydrolytic cleavage of DEHP which is contained in the PVC floorcoverings by alkaline ground.

As for formaldehyde that emanates from construction materials, it is widely known that there is a temperature dependency. In this research, a change with the lapse of time of the amount of the radiation lasting for one month of 15°C, 28°C, and 35°C, constant was measured by the small chamber examination by using the formaldehyde emanation construction materials, and the difference of the attenuation tendency by the difference was considered at the temperature. Moreover, it was considered what difference you were in the attenuation tendency to the amount of the radiation when the temperature history was changed as 15°C from 28°C and 35°C from 28°C and a change with the lapse of time of the amount of the radiation that lasted one month of the situation was measured by the small chamber examination, and the temperature history changed.

This study aims to minimize health effects occurred by chemical indoor pollution on occupants. In this paper, the chemical emission rates from interior materials are examined with small chambers. Structural repairing materials and paints that were used in the job site are investigated. The testing equipment and conditions are based on JIS A 1901. The chemical concentration in the teacher room is predicted with the emission rate obtained by the small chamber testing. The results shows that a large amount of ventilation can decrease the indoor chemical concentration significantly one month after the working.

The presentation concerns water-borne fluoropolymer coatings based on PVDF. These low VOC latexes provide excellent weathering and flexibility in formulation for coatings as elastomeric roofing membranes, PVC coatings, architectural textile coatings, and cementation coatings. In addition to low VOC benefits, this coating technology can be formulated to provide ambient cure coatings. Data will be presented that demonstrates the inter-penetrating-network (IPN) nature of this latex and its improved weathering performance in addition to dirt and water repellency.

We have been expanding the thermal insulation coatings system to reduce heat load occurring in a roof of buildings in Okinawa with high solar radiation. In order to verify the effect of the thermal insulation, we performed two methods. First, the buildings which coated by the thermal insulation coatings system were researched and the durability and the effect of the thermal insulation coating were evaluated. Second, the outdoor exposure tests of various coating materials were carried out and the relationship between the thermal insulation and coating materials was investigated. As a result, it was demonstrated that the reduction effect of heat load from the thermal insulation coatings system was maintained, compared with uncoated concrete surfaces. And also, it was confirmed that the effect of the thermal insulation decreased with increasing of year because of the stain on the coating surface. From these results, to maintain a solar radiation reflectance, it was effective to add preventive stain performance to the thermal insulation coatings.

Eleven of the tiles were traditional Japanese eave tiles of various design. Two were Spanish tiles, and the rest were interlocking flat tiles. Distribution of water that drips from the front edge of the tiles were measured on various height and horizontal position with four levels of flow rate, which were determined from ordinary rainfall rate and the flow lengths. Considerable difference was found in the behavior of run off water due to the shapes and materials of the tiles.

Evaluation method is five tests which are adhesion test (cross-cut test), weight-dropping test, scratch hardness (pencil method), resistance of boiling water immersion, resistance of heat and cold round. Intial adhesion in almost kinds of surface treatments is enough. It is confirmed that adhesion after boiling water immersion and heat and cold round differs with kind of chemical conversion, kind of substrate and coating specification. Accelerated deterioration tests and exposure weathering test have been continued. Based on these results, environmental management for baked enamael coating system would be proposed in the future.

As the result, the range of vibration level applying lower noise and vibration type drill are 43-53 dB in up-down direction and 35-48 dB in horizontal direction at near the punching point. The effects of reduction of vibration are 10-20 dB in up-down direction and 5-15 dB in horizontal direction compared with ordinary vibration drill. In case of lower noise and vibration type drill, it is possible that attenuation by distance is larger, and the area influenced by vibration is smaller than the case of ordinary vibration drill.

The main purposes of the present study are to investigate and evaluate the present state of the structures in the Ayutthaya and Sukhothai ruins, the world cultural heritages in Thailand. Proposing a most suitable repair method is also one of the main purposes. According to a diagnosis works by the authors, most of the brick buildings i.e. pagodas covered with plaster and stucco are deteriorated severely including the covering materials. That is, most of the pagodas are inclined and the plaster and bricks have become fragile (sometimes dissolved) due to various causes e.g. un-even settlement, salt weathering, growth of plants etc. As a future study, a cooperative repair works, including the development of a strengthening chemical agent and checking system of the strengthening effect, are desired between Thai and Japanese research groups

Our previous study shows the extent of vapor permeability of various coating materials for textured finishes of buildings based on a literature survey to make a reference for selection of coating materials. In this paper, it is conducted a literature survey on deterioration of RC components preventing effects of various coating materials, and investigations on correlation between the effects and vapor permeability. The results show that it is observed a high correlation between chloride penetration and vapor permeability of the coating material, and a correlation between water absorption and the vapor permeability.
