Abstract
Building elements such as columns, beams, walls and floors are ordinarily protected with fire protection material to assure the sufficient fire resistance of the building elements exposed to fire. Load bearing capacity and insulation and/or integrity of the building elements are required to prevent a building from collapse and fire spread in a fire. Gypsum boards are one of important fire protection materials and commonly applied to fire protection of timber buildings. In this study, the effects of components in gypsum boards on thermal insulation properties are researched using an electric furnace. Vermiculite and glass fiber, which were admixtures in gypsum boards, increased in the fire resistance of the boards. A small amount of combustible additives in the boards, which has an effect on waterproof and antifungal performance, did not affect the fire resistance.
