Abstract

From 1993 to 1995, a joint research on the development of a system for exterior tile finishing and stone finishing with organic adhesives was conducted by the public-private partnership at the Building Research Institute, and in this research, an outdoor exposure experiment on exterior tiles applied with organic adhesives was initiated and carried on. We have conducted an investigation on the adhesive strength after a 25-year-exposure, and obtained the following results. There was no deterioration found on the appearance. Since the adhesive strength was almost the same with that measured after one year, the adhesive strength is considered to be stable. There was a reduction in the cohesive failure rate of the adhesive layer from some adhesives, when compared to the rate obtained after one year. A variation of the deformability was recognized as compared to that obtained five years ago. Therefore, we will continue this investigation on the adhesive strength, and confirm the future tendency.
