Details

Since the first issue was published in December of 2013, four issues have been regularly published on J-STAGE in March, June, September, and December of each year. This journal is assigned to Digital Object Identifier (DOI)-Cross Reference. I greatly appreciate the authors, reviewers, and editorial board members for their enthusiastic and continued support for the publication.

The aim of the publication1) of Food Safety is to gather and disseminate scientific and technological information in the field of food safety on human health, and thereby facilitate the development of science and technology for risk assessments of foods. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles, including original articles, short communications, and reviews, covering broad areas of food safety. All peer-reviewed articles published hitherto covered the research areas within the scope of this journal, providing new and timely information about contaminants and pathogens in foods, and advanced understanding about the mechanisms of pathogenicity and toxicity by these agents. Successful dissemination of these articles via the J-STAGE platform contributes greatly to the research field of food safety, as well as to risk assessment and management for food safety in the world.

The risk assessment report session contains risk assessment documents of the Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ). Until now, more than 50 risk assessment documents have been reported as a summary, executive summary, or full report in this session to be disseminated widely. The reports are prepared by the journal editorial office with the help of the FSCJ office for English translation of the original full document or its excerpt written in Japanese. The original documents and their excerpts were elaborated by independent scientific experts based on investigation and discussion by expert committees or working groups for different subjects on food safety. FSCJ finally scrutinizes and approves them after consulting publicly and expert peer-reviews.

The peer-reviewed articles in this five-year period were submitted from Europe and the USA as well as Japan in line with our international journal policy. We look forward to receiving manuscripts within the scope of this journal2) from all around the world. Manuscripts presented at symposium or congress meetings are welcome to be published as original or review articles. The future success of our journal depends on authors of peer-reviewed articles. We are particularly grateful to the contributors for supporting the publication of the journal, which will advance the development of science and technology for food safety.
