The author's experimental facts are as follows :
Phosphoric and phosphorous acid show a depressant action on the isolated frog's heart and in their concentrated state produce at last its diastolic standstill. The intensity of their action is entirely proportional to their acidity and is markedly reduced by neutralisation with sodium hydroxide ; the acid-radicals, therefore, seem at least to have no remarkable action on the heart. In their action, between the two acids as well as between their sodium salts no difference can be observed.
