Abstract

Total knee arthroplasty is a surgery to replace original injured knee to a prosthesis. In this surgery, it is important to select a proper size of the prosthesis as fitting to the patients. This selection strongly depends on the experience and feeling of surgeon. This study aims to develop a system which can support to select the proper size. Therefore, this study examines an effect of varus and valgus motion to the tibial component of the prosthesis by using the developed system. In general, when the force concentration happens on the tibial component, it results in wear of the prosthesis after surgery and can shorten lifetime of the prosthesis. This system can contribute to avoid these problems.
