Abstract

Meditation has been used to control a mind since ancient periods. The focused study of meditation is one for the mindfulness meditation.Psychotherapy using mindfulness meditation is showed signiflcant effect of mindfulness meditation to reduce a stress and anxiety. It has been reported that EEG feature of meditation is appearance of High-amplitude and slow waves and theta wave and alpha wave appearance in the frontal region in previous studies. On the other hands, frontal middle theta wave reported as EEG feature of concentration. These previous reports suggest that frontal middle theta wave suggested to be related to both of meditation and concentration, however, there are no reports for direct evidence of the relationships between meditation and concentration. In this study,we performed two types of mental tasks during before and after meditation and investigated the effect of meditation in EEG power spectrum and performance of the task simultaneously. As a result, theta power during meditation strongly correlated to and the performance of mental tasks.
