Abstract
The authors examined coexistent gastric and duodenal ulcers appearing in 572 cases of gastric ulcer and 214 cases of duodenal ulcer which were followed up for more than one year. 1) Both duodenal ulcer preceding ulcers (DGU) and gastric ulcer preceding ulcers (GDU) appeared during the follow-up period, but GDU was significantly higher in incidence. 2) DGU appeared more frequently in young male cases, cases with multiple ulcers and cases with ulcer in the distal stomach. 3) GDU showed no tendency among factors such as shape, deformity and age, and the majority of gastric lesions were situated in the gastric angulus and antral portion. 4) In both DGU and GDU the gastric ulcers were located in the gastric angle and antral portion. 5) The incidence of coexistent gastric and duodenal ulcers was 12.5% in all of peptic ulcer cases. 6) As the conclusion, it is suggested that occuring of coexistent gastric and duodenal ulcers may be affected by relatively increasing aggrestive factor in DGU and by both relatively increasing aggresive factor and defensive factor decreasing in aging process in GDU.
