Whereas the immobilization mechanism for rare earth elements (REEs) with Mn oxides has been extensively studied, little is known about the metabolic activity of Mn-oxidizing microorganisms that could affect REEs migration. This work reported stress-induced release of bio-molecules, by Mn(II)-oxidizing fungus Acremonium strictum KR21-2, to desorb Ce(IV) from the solid phase.
