Endogenous GA content was examined in many dwarf mutants of rice. Several mutants were found to produce very limited amounts of GAs. Complementary gene control of plant height and GA production was suggested in the results obtained by crossing GA-deficient dwarf mutant, Tan-ginbozu, with another dwarf mutant, Dee-geo-woo-gen. The latter mutant produced limited amounts of GAs. This cross resulted in tall F1 plants which produced normal level of GAs. Analysis of GA production in F2 plants in relation to their plant height clearly showed the existence of complementary genes for GA production.
