Shale oil is also known as shale-hosted oil, tight oil, or light-tight oil. Shale oil has become a new bright spot in global unconventional oil exploration. In recent years, China has made significant discoveries in shale oil development. Shale oil resources are widely distributed in Songliao Basin, Ordos Basin, Sichuan Basin, and other places, showing great potential for exploitation. The occurrence characteristics of shale oil are different from those of conventional oil. This paper will further introduce the related concepts and primary evaluation indexes of shale oil.
