Amidst profound transformations in the global economic, political, and technological landscape, trade geography—an important interdisciplinary field at the intersection of geography and economics—has played an increasingly prominent role in analyzing global trade dynamics and the evolution of spatial organization. This paper focuses on the core issues in contemporary trade geography. It systematically reviews five key frontier areas: the restructuring of global value chains, cross-border e-commerce and digital trade, the impact of shifting geopolitical patterns on trade flows, the spatial transformation of trade under climate change and green transition, and the spatial organization of trade in services. On this basis, it delves into the profound transformation of global trade patterns driven by technological innovation, geopolitical realignment, environmental regulations, and the reconfiguration of global value chains, highlighting their far-reaching impacts on trade spatial structures. Through the exploration and analysis of these frontier topics, this paper aims to provide new theoretical perspectives and analytical frameworks for the academic community, thereby contributing to the further development and refinement of trade geography as a theoretical system.
