Aim: The purpose of the research is to explore the current status and associations between demographic characteristics of clinical nurses and their perceived transcultural self-efficacy (TSE) in a diverse city Yunnan province, China.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional with a stratified random-sampling approach to enrolling nurses from a tertiary hospital. A total of 284 nurses were analyzed (final response rate: 95.9%) by using the Chinese version of the Transcultural Self-Efficacy Tool (TSET-CV). Descriptive Statistics was used to test the level of TSE. Between-group differences were assessed using the rank-sum test.
Results: Nurses showed a moderate level of self-perceived TSE overall (71.1%) and on all subscales (Cognitive [68.1%]; Practical [74.7%], Affective [70.2%]) of the TSET-CV. There were significant differences in the scores of all three TSET-CV subscales (Cognitive, Practical, Affective) between nurses stratified by age, work experience, professional title, employment type, religion, nationality, and monthly income.
Conclusions: The current status of clinical nurses in Yunnan showed a moderate level. Demographic characteristics of nurses influenced TSE. Effective transcultural curriculum based on the nurses’ demographic characteristics enables to improve nurses’ TSE.
