Toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, highly efficient solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) will play a key role for production of hydrogen, syngas, methane, and synthetic liquid fuels. The author has researched for precise evaluation techniques of SOEC up to 2 kW. A very stable steam-supply method was developed for such SOEC testing. Steam electrolysis and coelectrolysis of steam and carbon dioxide have been carried out to understand electrochemical performances, possibility of carbon deposition. Recently, the author’s group focus on synthetic liquid fuel production to improve the lower efficiency and to tackle difficulty in co-electrolysis with project partners.
