Development of Teaching Materials to Experientially Understand Moment of Inertia of Area

Abstract

Mechanics of materials is included in the 3rd year curriculum of the National Institute of Technology, Hiroshima college. It's been three yearssince I took charge of this material mechanics, and I feel that many students are stumped by the section on "second moment of area ". When Iinterviewed severalstudents, itseemsthat there are several causes, but most of them say that it is difficult to imagine. Therefore, this time, we decided to develop teaching materials to make it possible to understand it intuitively.
