We investigate that an image-based avatar that points by hand on a map helps the user understand the route. We also investigate that an image-based avatar that points by hand is more liked by the user. Existing methods using an avatar for route navigation exploit hand pointing. However, the existing methods did not consider how to use a map. Thus, we tackle to inform the user of the route by an image-based avatar that points by hand on a map. We conducted a depiction test on whether the user correctly understands a route on a map, and a questionnaire-based subjective assessment on whether the user likes the system. The results of experiments show that hand pointing signicantly increased the likeability of the system, though the image-based avatar with hand pointing did not help the user understand the route.
