AN EXAMINATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF CHILD CARE WORKERS : REGARD TO IMMEDIATE ACTION AGAINST BITING CHILD

Abstract
Since 1991 we have made a research into biting behavior among nursery school toddlers. The reason we have made this research is that there was an urgent demand to have effective measures to prevent children from the biting behavior. A part of results that we obtained in this research was already announced just in another issue last year. In this paper we aim to analyze the immediate action of child care workers against biting children and especially to examine their acceptance. With the category of actions which has been established by examining 1181 cases, we have found, most of the actions are directive and it is very rare to accept the behavior of biting child. Then we have made a further inquiry to clear the necessary reason acceptance is so rare . But analysis has proved that there is no necessary reason to refer. Since there is no necessary reason, it is convinced, it is the directive action that stands in the way of acceptance. Child care workers who are confronted with the biting are apt to be strongly prepossessed with value system (right and evil) and loose their comprehensiveness. The more directive the worker is, the less acceptance. Direction is incompatible with acceptance. That seems to be the case of our results. Today day care needs for nursery school are going to be increasingly diversified. To meet these diversified demands,it is very important for child care workers to co-understand and accept the difficulty of child care with which today is parents are faced. In this meaning acceptance is also the key word for today's nursery school and child care workers.
