Abstract
Progress in digitalization, such as the widespread use of the Internet and smartphones, is compelling major newspaper media to change their organizational structure. Readers now have access to a wide variety of ways to receive news. Newspaper reporters need to have not only the ability to write articles of value to readers but also the skills to transmit information to the digital space. This paper focuses on the ability and skills that newspaper reporters are required to have in the digitalization era, which form some of the main issues for newspaper media in considering their organizational reforms. The author has used the mission profiling method of the project & program management (P2M) concept and interviewed five media journalists and editors who progressed to their current positions from being newspaper reporters. It has been found that, as their contact points with customers have become more diverse, it has become more important than ever for journalists and editors to gain the empathy and support of readers and to develop communication channels with them. Based on the results of the interviews, this paper identifies requirements for the reform programs of newspaper corporations..
