It is known that six types of large shogi existed before the Middle Ages. Among them, Ennen large shogi, whose number of pieces is the same as the number of days in a year in the lunar calendar (354 days), is considered, as its name suggests, a shogi game to pray for and celebrate longevity in the coming year. Therefore, there are five types of shogi with a game aspect: Maka large shogi, Large large shogi, Large shogi, Middle shogi, and Heian large shogi. In this paper, we report on the current status of the rule reprinting of Maka large shogi and Heian large shogi, as well as the process of Heian large shogi's development into Xiangqi and the prototype of chess.
