In this study, I offer a re-inspection of the pedigree from Mugaku Sogen 無学祖元 to Kōhō Kenichi 高峯顕日 and Musō Soseki 夢窓疎石 through the transmission of the robe Wuzhun Shifan 無準師範. The record that Kōhō Kenichi handed the robe down to Musō Soseki in “The Biography of Bukkoku Kokushi 仏国国師行録” is actually based on the “Chronology of Musō Kokushi 夢窓国師年譜” edited by Shun’oku Myōha 春屋妙葩. Moreover, basing ourselves on the “Biography of Bukkoku Kokushi” and the historical work called “Bukkoku Kokushi Goroku 仏国国師語録,” we can see that the portrayal of Kōhō Kenichi is not entirely impartial.
The inscription on the cremation urn of Taihei Myōjun 太平妙準 which was excavated in the Meiji Period and the inscription on the portrait of priest Butsuo Zenji (Taihei Myōjun) show that it was Taihei Myōjun who inherited Wuzhun Shifan’s robe from Kōhō Kenichi.
