In the Yogācārabhūmi,three types of precepts are mentioned as the precepts for Bodhisattvas. They are (1) Disciplinary Precepts 律儀戒, (2) Precepts for Cultivating Goodness 摂善法戒, and (3) the Precepts aimed at the Improvement of the Situation of Sentient Beings 饒益有情戒. The Disciplinary Precepts are explained as the righteous behavior for the liberation (or emancipation) of the Seven Groups of Buddhist Disciples 七衆別解脱律儀. Therefore, the Precepts for Śrāvakas are subsumed in the Precepts for Bodhisattvas. In this paper, we take up this relationship. From a minute comparison, it is clear that the ten kinds of Purification Precepts 清浄戒 of the bodhisattvabhūmi correspond to the ten causes that undermine the morality of the śrāvakabhūmi, and that the contents of these precepts also by and large correspond with each other.
