Meditation is thought to have positive effects on psychosomatic health and thus is an attractive form of rehabilitative strategies. Dependency of such effects on the type of meditation is unclear. In this study we examined the effects of two fundamentally different meditative disciplines, Zazen whose practitioners calm the body and mind in the sitting lotus-like posture and Tai Chi which advocates soft, but energetic, marital art techniques. We compared the effects of both disciplines on emotional intelligence, mood, and coping with stress. We also asked a question of whether the decision to mediate might be underlain by a specific personality pattern. The study was one of questionnaire survey.
