The Optimum Numbers of Display Color under Short Time Presentation Considering Surrounding Illuminance

Abstract

To achieve good visibility and eye-catching quality for LED information board under various illuminance environments, we made an attempt to know the optimum numbers of display color so that a driver can correctly recognize displayed information. Under four kinds of surrounding illuminance, we tried to determine an optimum number of display colors based on categorical color technique. The results showed that the optimum numbers of display color were ten. Our experimental results also revealed the influence on color recognition under various surrounding illuminance.
