Abstract
Concerning the plural operating circuits for metal halide lamps, the authors propose plural operating circuits of plural lamps on a common bypass circuit in which current runs nearly sinusoidal. We connect a common bypass circuit to the secondary winding of ballast for the leakage transformer type operating circuit.
We also propose a method for making it possible to light all the lamps at the same time by connecting resistances between the secondary winding and the common bypass circuit. Moreover, by inserting condenser capacity Cs of power factor improvement, it is possible to improve power factor.
It is shown from computer simulation and experiment that it is possible to improve power factor and reduce harmonic current by adjusting these three factors above to the reasonable value.
