Abstract

The very fast transient electromagnetic field is generated by discharge events. Especially, the micro-gap electrostatic discharge (ESD) of less than 1 kV voltages produces an impulsive electromagnetic noise having more than 10 GHz frequency bandwidth. The ESD noise is menace to cause malfunction of high-tech electrical equipment and systems. So far, many studies have been made on electromagnetic noise of ESDs from the viewpoint of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Then, the electromagnetic noise characteristics of the ESDs are gradually becoming clearer. In this paper, here is the recent research trend on EMC issues of discharge event and the specificity of electromagnetic noise caused by the micro-gap ESD.
