Personnel of maintenance work for railway line has to confirm status of train running and safety by communicating with station staff using telephone, during maintenance work. Since safety of maintenance work relies upon ability of human attention, it is difficult to avoid an accident caused by human errors.
We developed the interlocking algorithm between line close and train running, which is executed in the interlocking device. In the algorithm, the track circuits corresponding to area of maintenance work are reserved and any routes in conflict with the track circuits can not be set.
This Maintenance Work Management System is put into practice in Chuo-line (1997) and Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku-line (1998).
