In this paper, an efficient method is proposed for Voltage and Reactive Power Control (VQC) with Predator-Prey Brain Storm Optimization (PPBSO). VQC plays an important role to main voltage profiles within the appropriate bounds. In recent years, the use of renewable energy such as PV systems and wind power generation, Demand Response (DR), energy storage systems (ESS), etc. has been spread in power systems. As power system operation becomes more complicated, more advanced VQC schemes are required to deal with such power systems. This paper proposes a new VQC method for improving the solution quality and speeding up computation time. Specifically, a couple of techniques are employed to handle advanced VQC. One is to use PPBSO of high performance evolutionary computation and evaluate better solutions while the other is to employ hierarchical optimization, apply parallel computation of OpenMP to the subsystems and speed up computational time. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated in the IEEE sample system.
