Abstract

The purpose of this study is to obtain suggestions for the approach to " The Period for Integrated Studies " in the new curriculum guidelines. In this study, we focused on the word "tatoeba " ("for example " in English) appearing in the text of the 2008 and 2017 editions of the Commentary on the Courses of Study for junior high schools, "The Period for Integrated Studies," and analyzed and compared its frequency and content.

The results showed that the word " tatoeba " appeared 96 times in the 2008 edition and 110 times in the 2017 edition, with the 2008 edition having more occurrences. As a result of the content analysis and comparison, it was found that "tatoeba" was used more often in the 2017 edition to indicate specific examples so that each school can easily define the "inquiry tasks" and "specific abilities to be developed through problem solving," which are the main points of this revision. In addition, "tatoeba" was often used to explain the key words of the current revision, such as "independent and interactive deep learning," "three pillars" (knowledge and skills, the ability to think, judge, and express, the motivation to learn and humanity ) , techniques for thinking, and curriculum management.
