Ferritic spheroidal graphite cast iron is good in terms of ductility but is poor in strength because of the presence of graphite nodules. A harder second phase was introduced around the graphite nodules to improve the mechanical properties of the iron. This treated iron had good sliding wear and fatigue properties. The rolling wear characteristics of the treated iron was investigated in this paper. Even when the volume fraction of second phase is 15%, the wear rate is lower and the rolling life up to generation of abnormal wear is longer compared to pearlitic spheroidal graphite cast iron. A good correlation is found between the rolling life and the endurance limit of alternating bending fatigue.
