Generally speaking, “Minka” means an old Japanese (private) houses. Studies of Minka to date have focused on the associated life style and culture, as well as the environments and societies that they were located in. Minka have characteristic madori (floor plans) depending on the region in which they are situated. That is, there are regional types in its MADORI = PLAN. In this paper, I dealt with Minka-Types as a result of research studies for Minka, then I tried to analyze some Minka-Types in Ishikawa prefecture found by previous researches. I analyzed the contents and models regarding Minka types in Ishikawa prefecture of three previous studies. I then unified the classification of Minka Types in Ishikawa prefecture. This paper is fandamental study in that mean. Ishikawa prefecture is divided into the Kaga region and Noto region, which differ both geographically and culturally. A distinction was made between Kaga type and Noto type madori. Furthermore the Minkas of Ishikawa prefecture were classified into five types: which were Kaga I type, Kaga II type, Noto I type, Noto II type and Noto III type. I clarified the areas of distribution in Ishikawa prefecture and the characteristics of the five Minka Types. The relationship between the findings of the three previous studies is discussed. Unified diagrams and a distribution map will be shown in another paper.
